This promises to be an unforgettable evening during which two kindred spirits, both trained in classical voice and rooted in a childhood friendship of growing up singing and playing music together, join forces to open the season for Harmony School of Music’s Scholarship Concert Series. The special concert will feature original folk compositions from both artists, collaborations, and show-stopper classical favorites showcasing literature written for soprano & baritone voice. Jared Anderson, Northland College vocal director, will accompany. General admission tickets at the door sell for $12/adults; $6/teens & seniors. Children 12 & under are free. Howes, a classically trained lyric soprano, as well as modern singer-songwriter and poet, can delight audiences with original songs, Mozart arias, and Joni Mitchell favorites, all in the course of one evening. She often reads from her published works of poetry. All ticket proceeds support a fund for scholarships and tuition reduction for students and families enrolled at the School. This two-hour session will cover use of standard, Drop-D, and Short-Cut capos, separately and together in more than a dozen different positions in standard tuning. Learn the structural reasons why capos fit in certain combinations, and wow audiences with the variation you get by playing on both sides of the capo. The first third will be an interactive presentation, followed by practice time and one-on-one coaching. During the last part, participants will showcase one song that they’ve adapted to include partial capo techniques.
